SOME GENERAL ATTRACTIONS:

Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library — Learn about the late Indianapolis author. 543 Indiana Ave. (4.4 miles/12 minutes)

Indianapolis Zoo — Conservation and research are major focuses of the Indianapolis Zoo, which contains a zoo, an aquarium and a botanical garden. You can even fed a giraffe here! 1200 W. Washington St. (4.7 miles/12 minutes)

Eugene and Marilyn Click Indiana History Center — Devoted to showcasing Indiana history. 450 W. Ohio St. (4.8 miles/14 minutes)

Victory Field — Headquarters of the Indianapolis Indiana, a Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. 501 W. Maryland St. (4.9 miles/11 minutes)

Indianapolis Public Library, Central Branch — There are branches closer to the bungalow and Speedway has its own library, but this one is special. 40 E. Saint Clair St. (4.9 miles/14 minutes)

Central Canal — Walk along or paddle down the Central Canal, a great idea that was never completed. 801 W. Washington St. (5 miles/14 minutes)

White River State Park — This one is packed! It’s home to the Indianapolis Zoo, the Victory Field ball park, the Eiteljorg Museum, the Indiana State Museum with its IMAX theater, the NCAA Hall of Champions, and the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial. The Canal Walk along Central Canal is also part of White River State Park. Some of its attractions are highlighted in individual entries.

Eiteljorg Museum of American Indian and Western Art — Just like its name says, it’s a huge collection of American Indian and art of the West. 500 West Washington St. (5.1 miles/13 minutes)

Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site — Home of the 23rd president of the United States. 1230 N. Delaware St. (5.1 miles/15 minutes)

Eagle Creek Park and Nature Preserve — The Eagle Creek Park and Nature Preserve is one of the largest municipal parks in the United States, covering an area of 5,300 acres that include recreational facilities for both land and water. In addition to a small beach, visitors can rent watercraft at the marina, including kayaks, pontoon boats, and canoes, and even take sailing lessons in the summer. Eagle Creek is also a popular fishing spot, known for its walleye and bass. Broad Ripple — A popular neighborhood for college kids to go bar-hopping. (10.9 miles/25 minutes)
